Arabic Youth Ministry

Our goal and vision for the Arabic speaking young adults is:

1- To encourage all youth to become active, well rounded Christian missionaries.

2- To integrate the members who have just arrived into the body of our church and community and to facilitate their transition into our society.

Long Term goals

• Facilitate the change of all our youth into world class Christian missionaries and small group leaders.

Short Term goals

• Outreach ALL the Arabic speaking youth on our regularly updated attendance lists.

• Assign all to a small groups.

Why I should serve here

To grow in my spiritual life and take the blessing of working with the next generation of leaders, servants, and missionaries of our church.

Our Target Group

Arabic speaking youth age from 22-36 years.

We serve over 250 youth, 65 regularly attending Al Karma meeting with a diverse background, and most needing regular outreach by dedicated servants.

• The weekly Friday meeting:

Our goal

High school youth that are building a stronger relationship with Christ through knowing the Bible more and high school youth that express true unity and love for one another.

Creations: Drama and Fine Arts Ministry

Creations is designed to integrate creative and fun additions to sermons, retreats, Sunday school curriculums, and other special Church events. In the past we, have designed short, funny, introductory skits/videos for sermons, created group games for various retreats, created fun games for Church festivals, and emceed various Church conferences.

Committment Level:
This ministry is unique in that the comittment level is seasonal. During "retreat season" we have a very hectic schedule writing skits, getting actors, shooting the films, and editing. We also have to design the large group activities, etc. The goal is to have enough volunteers to be constantly integrating our services in the Light & Life meeting and other Church ministries as needed. Think of "Creations" as a "contracting" ministry. Other ministries "contract" us for very specific fine arts projects.
Most of the meetings and filming we conduct are on weekends. If you travel a lot or are busy on most weekends, this might not be the best ministry for you.

Requirements:
Have a knack and a passion for acting, filming, editing, or creating scripts or games. If you are a "creative" or "artistic" type -- we want you! You can specify if you like to act, film, edit, or write scripts.
As for age requirements -- we need all ages! We just want people who are energetic, creative, dependable, and responsible. Our projects are usually very time sensitive so we need people who will follow through.

Driver's Ministry

Our goal
The driver's ministry has the essential task of transporting our most valuable commodity - our children. Everyone knows about all the wonderful activities/trips/retreats that our youth participate in regularly. An important part of all those activities is transportation of participants safely.

Long Term goal
To be able to provide rides for every event in the church.

Short Term goals
To provide transportation for all retreats and Friday activities.

Why I should serve here
If I would like to serve but don’t always have the time to commit to a weekly service.

Our Target Group
Adults with a good driving records.

What are different services I can choose from and what is required of me to serve in either?
The driver's ministry is looking for safe drivers to volunteer to drive youth to/from various activities and events, such as:

Friday night activities: Friday nights, 7:30 - 10:30 p.m.
Retreats: seasonal, occur in four-week stretches in December and March/April; looking for drivers to drop them off at the retreat center on Friday nights and another group to pick them up on Sunday mornings.
Various events: occur sporadically throughout the year

Drivers need to have a clean driving record - no traffic violations in the last 3 years - and be comfortable driving large vehicles. We also need volunteers that have a CDL (commercial driving license). If anyone is interested in acquiring a CDL, please let us know and we can help you get one.

Elementary and Junior High Sunday School

Our goal

The Elementary and Junior High Sunday School ministry is aimed at raising saints and missionaries to grow in the love and knowledge of God and the Coptic Orthodox Christian faith. Toddlers to eighth graders meet every Sunday right after communion for praise, prayers, and discussion of the Word of God. We also organize various activities, trips, and retreats with the purpose of helping children grow in their relationship with God and His Word. Personal attention is given to the children through discipleship and outreach.

• 100% of the children on our lists will be in Sunday School weekly

• 100% of the “lost souls” (not on lists) will be in class weekly •

100% of our children will participate in mission projects and activities

As a servant I am concerned about other members of the body of Christ and want to bring them closer to Christ and His body, the Church.

New comers to welcome them and to help them get settled. Families who don’t come to Church, to bring them back to Church. Those who are sick, those who have lost loved ones to comfort them.

What are different services I can choose from and what is required of me to serve

1. Pick up newcomers from airport

Fundraising Ministry

Our goal

We are a ministry focused on fundraising for the church through the practical needs of our church members and through reaching out to the surrounding community.

Why I should serve here

I should serve here if I feel like I want to do more than just donate, I want to give of my time and talent in order to fulfill the needs of others and help my church in its financial strain.

Our Target Group

All ages with a special focus on adults.

Some Statistics:

The current loan balance is $4,885,703. The monthly mortgage payment is $40,000 ($22,000 of this amount is paid toward interest!). By making one additional principal payment of $40,000+ a year we can shorten the loan period by 5-8 years and therefore decrease the interest amount we pay each month.
Over the last ten years, we have encountered relentless increase in the Church congregation size along with the number and variety of services offered to serve the needs. It was obvious that to meet those needs additional facilities need to be added to:

1) support additional worshipers on Sunday

2) to accommodate LFCS children up to the 8th Grade

3) to house the various congregation services and ministries, e.g., health clinics, social activities.

The Church has been planning to accomplish that goal. It started by purchasing the two neighboring parcels of land. Next, it defined its plans to

1) enlarge the main church building

2) to build a separate building for the full capacity LFCS purposes

3) to have a separate building for social activities and all support services.

The project will be implemented in phases starting with the church expansion to meet the urgent need for Sunday services. We are currently working the engineering details necessary to secure the Fairfax County building
approval. Upon approval of our plans, work will proceed to estimate the project costs and the optimum approach for funding its successive phases. It is our current expectation that overall costs will exceed five million dollars.

1. Bazaar-This is a bi-yearly event that requires you to dedicate 2 full weekends a year in helping serve in different areas of the bazaar.
a. Need for physical labor

c. Need for marketing plan

2. Mini Market-The mini market is opened every Sunday after the 1st and 2nd liturgy. We will need 2 Sundays a month of dedicated time. Focus on customer service is a must.

Audio-Visual & Information Technology Ministry

Our goal
To be able to use the expertise of the members of our congregation and to work in unity to further the kingdom of God.

Long Term goals

Have a church as a whole body work together in fellowship
To allow for the Word of God to reach the unfortunate people who cannot hear it (i.e. orthodoxsermons.org)
Grow leaders to manage the ministries and to pass it down to new volunteers

Short Term goals

To constantly have a back up for others during church activities in case of emergency
To have a leader for every ministry; whether big or small; more efficiency.

Why I should serve here?
To get the opportunity to serve at my church and in the same time getting a chance to improve my relationship with God

All ages, with a special focus on young children for the AV ministry and the older age set with IT skills.

Some Statistics:
We thankfully have a great deal of volunteers that help us in most of our ministries. 95% of our AV is maintained by our junior High students; backups are highly needed. On the IT side, about most of our applications are outsourced, and a few are maintained by members of the church.

Our Goal
Making Korban (bread) for Sunday schools and the (Hamal) lamb for the liturgies throughout the week

Long Term goals

Have four group each group have minimum 6-8 people and each group can serve for one week.
If church required more number of Korban, it will be good to have more people and adding up more groups.
Inviting the young youth to this service.

Short Term goals

Coordinateand fulfill the needs of the Church for the holly bread “Hamal” and Sundayschool Korban.

Why I should serve here

It is a big blessing and direct reward from God for any person can serve in Ministry. This is an opportunity to do a service where no one knows about you and accordingly a lot of blessings will come to your life, plus sharing the making of lamb which one of them becomes the body of Christ and your name is always remembered in all litanies in the liturgy.

Our Target Group:

Looking for committed people from youth or graduate and upto serve in this ministry.

Some Statistics

Operationally we are dealing with two major weekly events:

1- Two Liturgies during the week days Wednesday and Friday: One or two person can handle it we do small amount of Korban “5-7 bound of flour”.

2- Two liturgies during weekends; Saturday and Sunday: It requires at least a group of three or more “25-30 bound of flour”

Li'l Angels Day Care

Our goal
The day care is designed to provide loving care for our young children, aged 1 to 3 years old, so parents have the opportunity to enjoy the Sunday Liturgy kid-free. It also helps minimize distractions for the other worshippers. If you enjoy interacting with young children, this is the ministry for you. Our volunteers work with these young children playing games, doing puzzles, and reading books as well as providing snack time. The goal is to make an age-appropriate "church" room for these young kids.

Long Term goal
To establish daycare for every church service and event.

Short Term goal
To have daycare for 2nd liturgy and church feasts.

Why I should serve here
I should serve here if I love children or if I have children that are need of daycare during the liturgy or church feasts

Our Target Group
All ages with a special focus on parents.

What are different services I can choose from and what is required of me to serve in either?
If you are volunteering, you must attend the first liturgy. Your Sunday in the room is not an excuse to miss church. You must be a St. Mark's Church Member and be responsible. Child care experience is preferred. If you must miss your assigned week, it is your responsibility to find someone to switch with you. Because of the age of the children, we will require at least two adults and two helpers in the room each week.

PARENTS, please note: You are welcome to bring your children with you while you serve, but only if they are in the proper age group.

Our goal

We dream of establishing a local radio broadcast which would provide small groups and their members to have an active role in preaching the Good News, teaching others about the Truth and making disciples for our Lord, throughout our local communities and eventually the whole world.

Long Term goals

Establish an English service broadcast and an Arabic service broadcast that would reach listeners in the Washington DC and Northern VA area
Develop and broadcast programs such as studying God’s Word, singing and praising, teaching English to Arabic speakers and Arabic to English speakers, world news from a Christian perspective, conversations with those whose lives have changed after Christ, and other light programs such as questions and answers, contests and so on.

Short Term goals

Establish the legal, technical and commercial foundation to enable a total of 12 hours broadcast per week by the end of the year
Develop and organize content for at least 2 types of “live” shows that would involve listener participation.

Why I should serve here

This is one of the many ways you can have an active and direct role in preaching the Good News to the world and in being a fisherman for Christ.

All ages and all faiths whether English or Arabic speaking in the Washington DC and Northern VA area with a special focus on those without Christ.

We sell Orthodox media online, specializing in Coptic Orthodox materials. The goal of OrthodoxBookstore.org is for everyone to have a deep, intimate, personal relationship with our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ and to spread the true faith to all the ends of the earth. We aim to support especially those Copts living all over the world and even in parts of the United States that don't have access to the many resources within the Coptic Orthodox Church. A book, a sermon, a video, even an icon can change someone's life. Our goal is to deliver that life-changing product to them when no one else can. We also help supply the St. Mark's Washington, DC, bookstore to meet the needs of our own congregation.

Requirements:
- Must have a PASSION for spreading God's word and for service
- Must be fairly computer savvy and willing to dedicate at least 4-6 hours per week

We provide the largest collection of Orthodox sermons on the web for absolutely FREE! The goal of OrthodoxSermons.org is for everyone to have a deep, intimate, personal relationship with our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ and to spread the true faith to all the ends of the earth. We aim to reach English speakers living all over the world who don't have access to good English sermons and those who are looking to learn about Orthodoxy. A sermon can change someone's life, and we have already touched so many lives in this country and all over the world. Our goal is to help deliver God's life-changing message to them for absolutely FREE, and you can be a part of it!

Requirements:
- Must have a PASSION for spreading God's word and for service
- Must be very computer savvy and willing to dedicate at least 4-6 hours per week

Various Duties:
- Recording sermons on Sundays and on retreats and other events
- Editing and uploading sermons
- Update OrthodoxSermons.org website with new sermons and new content
- Send e-mails and create marketing opportunities to promote the website
- Write descriptions for sermons

The Parking Ministry

Our goal

To best Serve St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Washington DC in organizing the Church Parking lot the best way possible with the limited parking space we have for the growing congregation.

Long Term goals

Raise Young Leaders & Servants. Grow the ministry.
To eventually have all members of our Congregation be mindful of the limited parking Spaces that we have at St. Mark and grow our leaders & servants in this Ministry in order for us to ultimately develop & serve other Ministries in our Church.

Short Term goals

Develop a system in assisting with the Church parking needs; pass this system from servant to servant & develop it to be the same system from week to week.
Recruit & train more servants. Improve our service to the congregation; prepare our servants in facing any foreseeable week to week obstacles and/or issues.

Why I should serve here

Our Lord Jesus Christ has called on each one of us to serve him, his people & his house; serving our lord has been a wonderful blessing in my life. This Service has changed me personally, I am forever grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ for allowing me this opportunity.

All the Congregation of St. Mark but especially young adults.

PrimeTime College Ministry

Our Goal

Every college youth locally would be a fully functioning member of St. Mark’s through small groups, Friday activities, and Sunday meetings, and that they would minister to those that are away. Every college student that is away would feel that they are still part of the St. Mark community. This would be measured practically by attendance and spiritually through participation in the sacraments.

Long Term goals

• Build a community of 50-60 local college students ready to lead and mission to those around them who also attend Friday nights.

• Engage college youth away at school and get them involved so that they are connected and growing in their relationship with God.

Short Term goals

• Use current student leaders to disciple and reach out to other local college students in order to create more youth who are growing in their relationship with God and ready to lead.

• Organize events and activities leading up to the Coca Conference and use that as an opportunity to encourage attendance at college retreat.

Why I should serve here

To enhance my personal relationship with Christ through serving souls, as well as guiding and discipling other college students.

Small Groups

Our goal

Each member of the church becomes a part of a small group of people where he or she feels comfortable to share and learn more about Christ due to common characteristics shared by all the members of the group. Through these groups we strive to develop close spiritual relationships through which we grow in our knowledge and love of Christ and each other. As each member and group continues to grow in its knowledge and love of God, so does the whole church, because we are all members of one body in Christ.

Form small groups that would meet the needs of each member of the congregation

Create library for small group materials to be used by small group leaders

have at least one leader and one co-leader for each small group

1. ___ Small Group Content Developers:

Research, study and develop enough material for a month for small groups to study and discuss. (4 to 5 hours per week for 4 weeks or 4 small group meetings).
Expected to be able to attend weekly servants’ meeting on Wednesdays from 8:00 to 9:30.
Expected to agree to guidelines that govern servants.

2. ___ Small Group Leaders:

Develop pre-assigned material for small group members to study and discuss. (2 hours per week).

Lead small group in study and discussion of God’s Word. (Once a week, 2 hours each).
Reach out to small group members and to encourage them socially and spiritually. (2 to 3 hours per week).
Nominate several members from the small group for leadership at the end of the year who have reached a spiritual level sufficient to lead small groups themselves.
Expected to be able to attend weekly servants’ meeting on Wednesdays from 8:00 to 9:30.
Expected to agree to guidelines that govern servants.

3. ___ Small Group Outreach Servants:

Reach out to the members of your small group and to make sure they attend the meeting and see if they need anything. (2 to 3 hours per week).
Recruit newcomers and those without Christ and reach out to invite them to attend church and small group meetings. (2 to 3 hours per week).
Expected to be able to attend weekly servants’ meeting on Wednesdays from 8:00 to 9:30.
Expected to agree to guidelines that govern servants.

4. ___ Child Care Servants:

Allot 2 to 3 hours per week to watch the children of small group members at the time of the meeting. (2 to 3 hours per week)
Preferably has a car or can arrange a ride to and from church or the place of the small group meeting.

Snow Removal Team

This ministry is for the adults who never really grew up and who still like to PLAY IN THE SNOW!!! If that's you, we have the perfect job for you. Join the church SNOW REMOVAL TEAM and help keep our church open during the times when the weather is not cooperating.

As part of the snow removal team, you will help ensure that all walkways and sidewalks are clear and safe for people to use. Using a combination of shovels, salt, and sand, this ministry makes sure that people can get from their cars to the church safely.

We need volunteers to be ready and on call during both weekends and weekdays. Volunteers hopefully would have access to a 4x4 vehicle in order to get to church on days when there is snow on the ground.

St. Joseph “Young at heart" Senior Ministry

“They will still bear fruits in old age... proclaiming, HE is my rock” psalm 92:12 – 15

Our goal

To provide an outreach ministry to adults 55+ in St. Mark church which will result in their spiritual growth, nurturing and sharing the joy of fellowship with one another. Leaving a legacy to show the generation to follow that their trust in the Lord and their great faith will stay intact all the way through; God’s power will be declared in the next generation.

Long Term goals

Committed coordinators recognizing that all generations have something to offer the church.
Outreach and creative ways to minister to homebound seniors.
Ideas to connect caring older adults with grandchildren (games & bingo)
Bring and implement new ideas for serving older adults.
One or two page newsletter (spiritual / humor / useful info to our elders).

Short Term goals

Outreach emphases to our seniors. Bring ideas/options for seniors to be involved.
Provide rides to older adults as needed.
Arabic MS word program, and Arabic typing.
Encouraging healthy older adults to care for frail elderly.
Promote outreach over the phone between St. Joseph members.

Attendance ranges from 18 to 25 individual each meeting. It can be up to 33 if its good weather or an activity (Easter Pageant or feast celebration – Christmas / Easter)
There are over 143 seniors in our church

What are different services I can choose from and what is required of me to serve in either

1. Help with our new “Young At Heart Club”

i. Creative entertainers.
ii. Young adults/grandchildren to play bingo & cards with our older adults.
iii. Help with gifts ideas / games.
iv. Possibly drama group to offer short skits.

2. Help with ideas to involve our seniors.

3. Provide rides for church and our regular meeting.

4. Reading & Recording ARABIC spiritual books “audio books”.

St. Luke’s Hope Clinic

Our Goal

St. Luke's Hope Clinic was created to provide spiritual and medical care to any St. Mark's congregation member who is uninsured or under insured. The clinic is solely run by volunteers, doctors, pharmacists and an administrative staff. We also provide a spiritually-based environment and aim to network and welcome new families who are still getting situated in the area.

Long Term goals

We aim to build up our Clinic internally and get it ready to eventually become a Missions clinic and serve the surrounding area.

Short Term goals

Minister spiritually and medically to uninsured or underinsured members of St. Mark’s congregation

Why I should serve here

To enhance my personal relationship with Christ through an available opportunity to learn more about the Church and its teachings

To serve God and His people through the many gifts and talents that He provides us

Our Target Group

All ages for those who are uninsured or underinsured

What are different services I can choose from and what is required of me to serve in either

1) Volunteer Doctors

We need doctors who are willing to commit to at least one Sunday every month. We are in need of any and all types of doctors. You must know all/some Arabic to be able to communicate with the patients. Doctors must also be willing to be trained on the database system and follow all Clinic rules/procedures.

2) Volunteer Pharmacists

We need volunteers every Sunday from noon - 2 p.m. We would like volunteers who can commit to at least once a month. You must know all/some Arabic to be able to communicate with the patients. Responsibilities will include counseling the patients on medications. Information includes but is not limited to indication, dosing, side effects, drug/drug interactions and more. Will help in assisting physicians with obtaining patient history and vital signs.

3) Volunteer Administrators

We need volunteers every Sunday from noon - 2 p.m. We would like volunteers who can commit to at least once a month. You must know all/some Arabic to be able to communicate with the patients. Must also be willing to be trained on the database system and follow all Clinic rules/procedures. Other duties include: Scan patient files, Work as a front desk administrator and enter patient information,welcome patients and assist them with any/all needs in waiting area

4) Church Services (Social Work) Ministry

We need volunteers who are willing to commit to at least one Sunday every month. Responsibilities include Assessing the social, emotional, physical and spiritual state of the patient to determine appropriate services. Assessing and reassessing social and emotional factors in order to help the patient and family to cope with problems in daily living associated with medical recommendations and/or social and physical needs.
Coordinate with physicians and other ministry representatives to develop a plan of client needs and establish medical, spiritual and physical goals.
Assists clients and their families with personal and environmental difficulties by advocating and coordinating needed services and by empowering clients to obtain developed goals.

5) Volunteers with Phlebotomy Certified Training

Need volunteers who have this specific training to take blood for all patients needing bloodwork and be able to volunteer at least once a month. Other responsibilities include: Properly filling out lab forms, Submitting lab work, Receiving results, Consulting with doctors, Relating results to patients properly

6) Ordering Supplies

Ordering/Negotiating supplies, Testing kits, Clinical drugs, Pharmaceutical drugs, Medical supplies, Other equipment

7) Grant Writers

Have an understanding of the grant process, Be able to define our needs & document/prove these needs, Have industry-specific knowledge

8) Research

Conduct demographic research, Produce marketing media, Establish target patient base, Understand service needs of community, Synergy for resources

9) Event Coordinator

Blood drives, Health fairs, Fund-raisers

The Mini Market

Do you like to COOK food? SELL food? EAT food? If you answered yes to any of those questions (except the last one), then we have the perfect ministry for you…THE MINI MARKET. The church Mini Market is your one-stop shop for authentic Mediterranean food - both fresh and frozen. We sell food found in specialty and grocery stores, but at a fraction of the price.

In addition to selling food from the store, volunteers with a flare for cooking can also assist in creating hot dishes for customers desiring a true taste of the homeland. This service has become an invaluable service to the members of St. Mark's - especially those who would like to get good food at a good price and help out the church in the meantime.

What We Need:
- Good Cooks (food or sweets): Cook food at home and bring to church to be sold on Sundays
- Sandwich Makers: Sundays, 10:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Sales People: Saturdays, 10:45 a.m. - noon; and Sundays 11:00 a.m. - noon - Cleaning Crew: Sundays, 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Young Adult Ministry (YAM)

Our goal

to grow in fervent love for God, for one another, and for those without Christ, both locally and globally. Our vision is to see graduates and young professionals of the DC area become fully devoted disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ in the true, apostolic, Christian faith, and members of His eternal family.

Long Term goals

Bring together graduates and young professionals from the NOVA/Wash DC area for regular meetings, along the lines of Light and Life
Get young adults involved in Small Groups, linked to church activities and to get involved in service
Develop outreach schedules, assignments, or proograms

Short Term goals

Establish a regular base of attendees
Spiritual + recreational: Friday night meetings (2x per month – spiritual, sharing and fellowship) + Additional activities on Saturdays or select Fridays.
